Someone (don't know if it's your company) needs to do a better job of cable crimping and assembly.
While routing the 40-ft LMR-240 cable into our house, the outer part of the SMA housing popped off the cable when I was fishing it through a hole. No damage to the SMA socket crimp when the housing popped off, fortunately.
I had covered the end of the female SMA connector with electrical tape to keep debris out of the center SMA hole while doing the fishing, but wasn't expecting I'd also have to tape the housing to the end of the cable.. The barrel slid back into place on the cable relatively easily, which means the crimp was not tight at all to begin with. I don't have the tools to re-crimp so I'm going to have to live with a weak crimp I guess.
But this gave me a chance to examine the strip job as well. The outer foil was folded over touching the core in some spots. I carefully picked away at the excess foil to isolate the core/foil before pushing the barrel back on. Not much point to this project if I am unknowingly installing an internally shorted cable is there?
So, can I trust the other cable end on the roof was crimped and assembled correctly? Crimps aren't supposed to be taken apart so I assume I should not be able to examine it.
